FIRESIDE CHAT: What is “Radical Empathy” with author Dr. Terri Givens.

November 13, 2020 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm PST

Remotely founding advisor Elisa Camahort Page will be joined by special guest, Dr. Terri Givens to discuss her upcoming book (available for pre-order) Radical Empathy: Finding a New Path to Bridging Racial Divides.

For many years Dr. Givens was best known as a professor, political scientist and rare African American woman in academic leadership. She specialized in understanding right-wing movements in Europe and has been published many times around that topic.

Several years ago Dr. Givens joined the ranks of Silicon Valley entrepreneurs, founding and leading the Center for Higher Education Leadership, seeking to provide more professional development, particularly around the topic of inclusion, to academics.

In the wake of widening racial divides here in the United States, post the election of Donald Trump, Dr. Givens turned her attention to her own story and her own country, with the impending publication of Radical Empathy.

Elisa and Terri will discuss the work we must do to have contextual empathy for ourselves…yes, a radical thought…in order to transform the divides that exist with others, at work, at home, in the public sphere.
